Sober Living Home

Sober Living Home Transitional Housing

Sober living home, when searching the internet for a safe sober living house on completion of treatment or as an alternative to residential treatment then you will have come across Transitional Living Homes. They come under various headers such as Sober Living Home, Living Sober, Transitional Community Housing etc.

This can either be helpful if you are aware that there is not much difference between the title of the facility as there is in the service provided. Or add to the frustration of not exactly knowing what you need or how to go about finding it. The best solution for this is to take some time and go through all the Homes Houses or Transitional Living programmes you come across on the internet and see what is offered in each service.

Sober Living Home

A Sober living house may only take you if you already have a sponsor from either Alcoholics Anonymous Narcotics Anonymous ( or other 12 Step Fellowships ) while other Transitional Housing facilities will take you and help you to make contact with the fellowships and also guide you with finding a sponsor in order to go through the 12 step programme.

Many Houses will have finding work as part of the expectations and will assist you in this search while others will insist on daily involvement in the 12 Step fellowships in the area. Some will insist on both as part of there assessment for a bed, so do ask questions while deciding where to make your commitment.

Transitional housing, sober house, sober Homes or Sober Housing are purely new terms for what used to be known as Halfway Houses and even Three Quarter houses which where predominantly used by those leaving a residential treatment centre with nowhere else to go. Also these who may have had a home to go to but not feel confident enough in there sobriety to return to old using ground.

Sober Houses offer a vital service to those in early stages of recovery. While living in such a living sober house community an addict / alcoholic gets the opportunity to develop practical life skills build self confidence maintain a fellowship connection and develop relationships with others in recovery for ongoing support. Without following the expectations of a Transitional Living Program then the move from residential treatment back to becoming a responsible productive member of the community would be extremely difficult.

There are many Sober Housing Homes or Transitional Housing Programmes available and one of them will be best suited to you, if you can get help when making a decision then do use it. Ask questions on the assessment, remember this is not only for them to assess you its also for you to assess them. Gather as much information as you can and make an informed decision as to where you believe your future recovery lies.

Do you need a gender specific Sober Living Home or a gay dry house please question if the facility you choose will cater for your identification needs.

Your ongoing recovery begins here, choose wisely and you will never need to choose again.
