Centre Description
Smarmore Castle is a residential rehab clinic that treats alcoholism, drug addiction plus gambling issues. Our aim is to help patients achieve abstinence through an intensive, personalised programme. This follows the 12 Steps, provides detox and medical treatment, psychiatric therapy and complementary therapies.
We treat addiction as a brain disease. Evidence shows that abstinence is essential for an optimal and long-lasting recovery. Our alcohol and drug treatment programme has been carefully constructed with over 30 years’ practical and professional experience.
Undergoing Treatment
At Smarmore Castle Private Clinic we focus on care, and respect the dignity of the person suffering from addiction. Plus we work towards meeting the specific needs of each individual and uniquely affected person and their families.
The treatment programme at Smarmore Castle begins a life-long journey in recovery. Thus aiming for a sober network of friends and strong aftercare support networks.
Alcohol & Drug Detox
Detox is a medically managed withdrawal process. Hence this is the very first stage of residential treatment here at Smarmore Castle Private Clinic. Our aim is to remove all traces of drugs and alcohol from the body. Therefore we can safely and comfortably treat the symptoms of withdrawal.
A consultant psychiatrist will prescribe a personalised detoxification plan, which is agreed with the patient.
Safe, Supportive & Effective Detox Programme
The detox policies and practice at Smarmore Castle are based on a well established detox programme. This ensures that detox is safe, and as comfortable as possible.
We provide 24/7 round-the-clock care, support and encouragement because we understand that this can be a daunting time for our patients. All patients receive medical care as an inpatient at Smarmore Castle; we don’t offer outpatient treatment.
All patients are closely monitored throughout the process of detoxification, easing withdrawal symptoms and reviewing their condition several times a day. A specialist doctor is always on-site or o-ncall in case of an emergency, and our experienced nursing staff are always at hand.
Detox is the First Step
Detoxification is the first step in a much longer process towards recovery, and will not curb the compulsion to drink, use drugs or gamble. A combination of individual psychotherapy, group therapy, specialist therapies, educational lectures and complementary therapies (all monitored by our experienced and dedicated medical team) will see a patient through towards a full recovery.
Complementary Therapies at Smarmore Rehab Clinic
Treating Addiction with Alternative Therapies
A variety of complementary and holistic therapies are offered alongside our primary addiction treatment programme. We always look for practical and creative activities that balance the body and promote positive social interaction and self-expression. We aim to optimise the mental, physical and emotional health of our patients, so that they can continue their lives in different ways than with mood-altering substances.
Our patients at Smarmore Castle Private Clinic have the use of our 22m swimming pool where water-based complementary therapies such as Aqua Gym take place. Equine therapy takes place within the grounds of Smarmore.
Equine therapy, drumming therapy, mindfulness meditation, aromatherapy and relaxation therapy will all be incorporated into the treatment programme.
