I attended the CG Clinic in Plettenberg Bay for 13 weeks from March through to the end of May 2007. Initially, not being sure what was right for me, recognising, accepting and coming to terms with being an alcoholic, the general confusion within my life and the feelings of despair and hopelessness, I needed the services offered by the CG clinic. I could not be where, or who I am today without the clinic. 292 days clean today and counting. The staff are incredible. The level of commitment from everyone from the medical staff to the ladies in the kitchen, the driver and secretarial staff all made my treatment period easier than it otherwise could have been.

The counselling services were tailored to my needs and the 12 step programme introduced. Lectures, videos, therapeutic excursions, workshops all designed to teach me what a life without alcohol could be like and to have some fun. It was a long journey to get there but being at distance (I'm living in France) helped focus my mind and the area itself is spectacular (you can't compare it to Luton!). Flights can be found relatively cheaply (I got a cheap flight with Qatar airways) and the treatment cost is incredible when compared to comparable treatments in the UK and you get some sunshine!.

Nobody said it was going to be easy - it wasn't and still sometimes isn't. Realising that I couldn't do it alone was the biggest hurdle to overcome for me. With the help of the CG clinic and all of the other clients, I wasn't alone. My family weren't alone either. Through constant assessment and feedback, they were kept up to date with my treatment. This gave them comfort and hope and the realisation that they too were not alone. It wasn't possible for my family but it was great to see other clients family visit them during their treatment.

I have many happy memories from my 13 weeks, some I'll never forget.

The people at the clinic care about what they do and for all of their clients. I can't praise them highly enough.
