Oasis Counselling Centre in Plettenberg Bay is situated in the tranquil surroundings of the Garden Route, South Africa. We offer help to those struggling with drug addiction, alcoholism, eating disorders, pill addiction, gambling addiction and sex and love addiction.
We are a Registered Rehabilitation Centre in terms of the Prevention and Treatment of Drug Dependency Act, 1992 (Act 20 of 1992), as well as being registered with the Board of Health Funders (Practice Number 047 000 0201596).
We have a maximum of 12 residential clients at any given time in order to ensure that they each get the personal attention they require. All bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms. Single rooms are available. Oasis Counselling Centre is within walking distance of the beautiful beaches and town of Plettenberg Bay, providing a favourable climate for clients to relax, rest and recover.
At Oasis, the healing effects of nature and healthy living are incorporated into the treatments offered by an experienced therapeutic team. Our focus is on long-term residential care as our experience, substantiated by worldwide research, has found that good outcomes are contingent on adequate lengths of treatment.
Anstice Wright - BACP accredited psychotherapist and Director of Oasis Counselling Centre – heads a team of qualified counsellors and ancillary staff
Also available - psychiatrist, physician, registered nurse and physiotherapist.
The programme is based on the Minnesota Model of 12 Step Recovery. The emphasis is on interpersonal group therapy. As, according to Flores, group therapy in the addictive population has been proven to have the best outcome when combined with 12 Step Recovery programmes.
At OASIS we are not dealing so much with denial, as using the therapy group to deal with the array of emotions that usually accompany the first few months of abstinence. If these are untreated they can often lead to the re-emergence of denial and a relapse.
Awareness is also facilitated through workshops and lectures. Each client is assigned a focal counsellor to encourage the process of self-disclosure that enables the client to face themselves and give them the courage to take this to their larger group.
Nature and healthy living is an important component of our programme. The programme includes:
Well balanced diet
Daily beach walk/swim
Weekly nature excursion
Art therapy workshops
Monthly deep-sea adventure
Participation in overnight International Outward Bound programme
