DRUG & ALCOHOL TREATMENT THAILAND - COMPLIMENTARY THERAPY

Complementary Therapy
The Breathing Space addiction treatment programme integrates holistic therapies to complement the therapeutic process. Our complementary therapies have been designed to restore your body to its naturally healthy state and provide a clearer mental focus. These include:

Tai Chi: - Chi Kung
Chi Kung is included in the Breathing Space Programme because it is easy to learn and can very quickly provide benefits to people in early recovery from addiction.

40 million people practice Tai Chi in China alone (60-70 million worldwide). Chi Kung is a wonderful tool for bringing health, peace and vitality into one’s life. It consists of very simple and effective exercises and meditations.

Chi Kung means internal energy circulation and was develop in China by Taoist monks. Chi Kung has been in use for hundreds of years for developing good health.

People with addictions are more likely to be susceptible to stress and unhealthy living, this in turn leaves us feeling physically, mentally and emotionally unbalanced. Chi Kung, when practiced regularly, brings a state of peace and calmness to one’s mind and to one’s life, enabling the client to apply themselves to the therapeutic process.

Chi Kung works alongside any form of medication and therapy that you may be receiving. If you take any prescribed medication, it is strongly advised to continue until further advised by a qualified medical professional.

Zen Meditation:
Meditation has been practiced in different forms in many cultures for centuries. It may be part of religious practice, (Buddhism), in martial arts, or used as a mental relaxation technique.

Some techniques used stylized forms, (Tai Chi, Yoga) while others use mantras, chanting, and visualizations to focus the mind. Most forms have in common the aim of emptying the mind and eliminating external thoughts, which in turn assists relaxation and reduces stress.

The use of Zen meditation in the Breathing Space Programme is to teach clients simple, proven techniques that reduce stress. Zen meditation can be used anywhere, at anytime and is relatively easy to learn at a basic level.

Zen meditation is now widely used in sport, as a preparation for public speaking, and as a daily practice to cultivate a less stressful lifestyle. Research into the benefits of meditation is ongoing, but it has been widely shown to improve concentration, reduce heart rate, blood pressure, and anxiety levels.
