at the Vince Carter Sanctuary:

These brand new world-class facilities were designed by the renowned Ginn Resort Development team. Though our facilities are new, we are not new to helping those struggling with drugs, alcohol and dual-diagnosis or co-occurring issues to reclaim their lives. As a division of the Stewart-Marchman-Act Behavioral Healthcare System, we have many decades of agency experience in the delivery of substance abuse and mental health care.

The Vince Carter Sanctuary was specifically designed and built for the purpose of serving clients with substance abuse and dual-diagnosis or co-occurring issues. Most treatment and rehab centers in North America were converted into these types of facilities from all sorts of existing structures, such as former homes, motels, and a wide array of commercial buildings.

With SMA's decades of experience in owning and operation treatment centers, we were able to utilize all of our experience, expertise and foresight to construct what is perhaps the finest substance abuse treatment facility in the world today.

DETOX

at the Vince Carter Sanctuary:

A safe, medically monitored detox is a fundamental component of any drug addiction treatment program, especially during withdrawal when battling the physical dependency associated with many drugs – particularly alcohol and opiates.

Detox is the foundation in overcoming the deep physical, emotional and psychological challenges addicts and alcoholics face in early recovery. Some clients may be in need of certain medications for their detox. Medications, such as Burenorphine (Suboxone® or Subutex®) and Vivitrol®, may be prescribed by one of our board certified physicians during a client's withdrawal period. An ideal detox program is tailored to fit the client’s specific needs.

With nearly 40 years of experience in helping people detox safely, our detox team is composed of highly competent health care professionals with a proven track record of success.

RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT

at the Vince Carter Sanctuary:

First and foremost, the facilities and programs at the Vince Carter Sanctuary are private and confidential. Clients and families can be assured of the extreme importance we place on their anonymity, privacy and confidentiality.

Residential Treatment may be viewed as a "Timeout" from the unhealthy and self-destructing lifestyle being led by a person caught in the grip of addiction.
During this timeout, clients at the Vince Carter Sanctuary learn a new way to live life without the use of mind altering substances.

The Vince Carter Sanctuary is a CARF Accredited - Level II - Adult Residential Substance Abuse & Dual Diagnosis Treatment Provider that is Licensed by State of Florida's Department of Children and Families (DCF).

EQUINE ASSISTED THERAPY

Equine Ranch Meeting Cabin

We are Abstinent & 12-Step based. The 12-Step model, initiated by Alcoholic Anonymous (AA), has been a proven method for substance abuse recovery since 1935.

Our comprehensive treatment programs are tailored for individualized care. All of our Therapists have Masters Degrees and are highly credentialed. One-on-one and group Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Enhancement Thearpy are utilized along with adjunctive therapies, which include Equine (Horse) Assisted Therapy, Art Therapy, and a wide variety of Activities Therapies. Some of these adjunctive services may involve an additional cost such as the Dolphin Encounter at nearby Marineland®.

We help our clients to make changes within themselves, which allows them to break free from the bonds of drug and alcohol dependence. We help our clients learn better communication, coping and relationship skills, as well as various life-changing tools that equip them to build self-esteem so they may live a new clean and sober life.

RECOVERY & AFTERCARE

Programs at the Vince Carter Sanctuary:
AFTERCARE:
We utilize a One Year Aftercare Monitoring System that helps keep our discharged clients accountable for their personal recovery.

Prior to being discharged, a client and his or her Aftercare Planner formulate a Plan-of-Action, which encourages an individualized continuing care regimen of recovery. They are held accountable by way of random drug screenings, weekly calls to an automated system, weekly record of their personal 12-Step recovery program that they forward to us, and continued follow up.

By the time a client is discharged from the Sanctuary, he or she has been given tools to make the critical decisions that will help them to not pick up a drink or drug again.

Our One Year Aftercare Monitoring System helps the families and loved ones of the discharged client know exactly what that individual is doing for their recovery once discharged. They will know if the discharged client is making their weekly calls, and are working their personal 12-Step program of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Narcotics Anonymous (NA), or that of another fellowship.

FREE

Early Intervention Relapse Prevention (1st year)

If a former client, who has successfully completed the Vince Carter Sanctuary's full 90-Day Residential Treatment Program, feels that he or she is nearing a relapse within the first year after being discharged, and would like to participate in our Early Intervention Relapse Prevention Program, they may do so for up to two weeks with no treatment fees. This does not include travel expenses.

FREE

Refresher Treatment (1st year)

If a former client, who has successfully completed the Vince Carter Sanctuary's full 90-Day Residential Treatment Program, relapses within the first year after being discharged, and would like to refresh their treatment, they may do so for up to two weeks with no treatment fees. This does not include any detox fees or travel expenses.

DUAL DIAGNOSIS TREATMENT

at the Vince Carter Sanctuary:

With our available Mental Health Services, individuals with co-occurring issues, perhaps as a result of some form of traumatic event, or an acute or chronic mental illness in addition to substance abuse, i.e. a person with bipolar disorder in combination with crack cocaine addiction, are offered a variety of specialized services including psychiatric care, medication management, nursing, and therapy.

Addiction is a mental health issue. Many addicts and alcoholics also battle other issues such as depression, anxieties, and other disorders. We have the team available that can address these dual diagnosis and co-occurring needs.

FAMILY AND MARITAL THERAPY

at the Vince Carter Sanctuary:

Family and Marital Therapy is a very important aspect of the recovery process. Family members can provide the necessary love and support to keep recovery a part of everyday life. Family Therapy is made available for all of our clients.

Family Therapy is provided by licensed and experienced professionals. Spouses and family members are educated on the nature of drug abuse. Many people have misconceptions about addiction. Our goal is to clear up those misconceptions so that loved ones have a real understanding of the nature of the disease of addiction, their role in its development and their role in its remission.

Another important aspect of Family Therapy is to improve the content and quality of communication between family members. The family is a powerful tool in creating behavioral change. By attending our Family and Marital Therapy, these loved ones have a better understanding and ability to communicate with the discharged client, helping to greatly reduce the chance of a relapse. Teleconferencing is also available to those unable to attend in person.

Note: We are open year round, and the list will have seasonal variations as well as what to bring at any time. We do have a complimentary guest laundry for client use as well.

* Phone Policy: (Including Cell Phones)
Personal cell phones are allowed to be placed in the custody of the client’s primary therapist while staying at the Vince Carter Sanctuary. Personal cell phones are only allowed for the purpose of retrieving incoming calls. Placing outgoing calls on a personal cell phone is strictly prohibited for safety reasons. Outgoing calls may be placed with the approval of the client’s recovery team on one of the Sanctuary’s monitored land-line telephones.

** Computer Policy: (Including Personal Laptops and Desktops)
Personal Laptop and Desktop computers are prohibited during the Primary Care Treatment Program. Through the approval of the client’s recovery team, we do offer clients the use one of our monitored desktop computers. If a client remains for our Extended Care Treatment Program, the recovery team may extend personal laptop use on a limited monitored basis.
