The Programme
The programme is based on the Minnesota Model of 12 Step Recovery. The emphasis is on interpersonal group therapy. As, according to Flores, group therapy in the addictive population has been proven to have the best outcome when combined with 12 Step Recovery programmes.
At OASIS we are not dealing so much with denial, as using the therapy group to deal with the array of emotions that usually accompany the first few months of abstinence. If these are untreated they can often lead to the re-emergence of denial and a relapse.
Awareness is also facilitated through workshops and lectures. Each client is assigned a focal counsellor to encourage the process of self-disclosure that enables the client to face themselves and give them the courage to take this to their larger group.
Nature and healthy living is an important component of our programme. The programme includes:
Well balanced diet
Daily beach walk/swim
Weekly horseriding
Weekly Sivananda Yoga
Weekly nature excursion
Monthly team building excursion on country farm
Monthly deep-sea adventure
Participation in overnight International Outward Bound program
Music Therapy Workshops
