THE FACILITY

Harmony Addictions Clinic is situated in the rural, lush valley of Hout Bay, surrounded by mountains and the sea. The clinic has a country feel and the grounds, with its water features, miniature lake and farm animals, provides a tranquil environment beneficial to the healing process.

Patients are gender-separated to avoid distractions and to promote deep sharing of difficult issues.

Apart from bedrooms with two beds each and two comfortable community sitting rooms, we offer upmarket individual private suites for clients who seek privacy.

If a client has a private suite, family members are welcome to stay over for a night or two. This also gives us an opportunity to work with family members.

Harmony Addictions Clinic, a Primary Care facility, also provides patients with the choice of going to Secondary Care (Harmony House) and Tertiary Care (Serendipity).

In addition, there are Sober Living Houses for addicts who are ready to enter the outside world, but with the advantage of a safe support base, in tandem with a community of fellow recovering addicts.

Furthermore, there is a tranquil meditation well and spiritual guidance by two of South Africa’s highly regarded spiritual leaders. Apart from the programme activities, patients go for mountain hikes, therapeutic walks on the beach and visits to the World of Birds.

VISION: HARMONY ADDICTIONS CLINIC & HOLISTIC RETREAT

We are part of a non-profit organisation dedicated to a culture of recovery for addicts, their family members and others who have suffered from the damages of this disease.

We use a holistic approach to addiction and work with clients to address their physical, emotional and spiritual needs.

The central purpose of Harmony Addictions Clinic is to provide prevention and specialised treatment for those who suffer from all forms of addiction.

An individualised programme is tailor-made to accommodate each person’s specific requirements and to ensure that clients are treated holistically.

Apart from alcoholism and drug addiction, we also work with clients with sex and love addiction, gambling addiction, eating disorders and co-dependency.

TREATMENT PROGRAMME

Our 28-day-programme is based on the Minnesota Disease Model of Addiction, including the 12 Step Programme as followed by Hazelden, U.S.A.

Harmony has a close association with the world renowned Hazelden Rehabilitation Treatment Centre in Minnesota.

Patients are busy throughout the day with groups, lectures, individual sessions with their counsellors, written work and 12 Step meetings.

In accordance with our improved holistic programme, we also offer Yoga, Full Body Massage, Indian Head Massage, Hot Stone Therapy, Acupuncture, Reiki, Drumming and NIA Dance Technique.

Patients experience an intense process of self-discovery, breaking down their denial systems, developing an honest, realistic picture of their relationship to their drugs of choice, as well as their self-sabotaging behaviours. It is vital that patients shift from denial to surrender in order to recover.

To achieve an accurate picture of the consequences of addiction, family members or work colleagues may be asked to participate in the treatment process by giving accurate accounts of their experiences with the addict. No one is contacted without the specific consent of the patient.

The Goal

By the time our patients complete treatment they should have:

A working knowledge of the 12 Steps and a connection with a 12 Step Fellowship.
A realistic view of the consequences and damages of their addiction.
A clear understanding of their relapse triggers.
New life skills and tools in order to manage their lives without the use of mood-altering substances and behaviours.
The desire to work a recovery programme and change the course of their lives.
Above all, we want our patients to develop a sense of hope and freedom from addiction and a desire to live honest shame-free lives

HARMONY’S HOLISTIC APPROACH TO TREATMENT

Harmony Addictions Clinic is one of the first rehabilitation facilities in the country to introduce complementary holistic addiction therapy – particularly for repeated relapses and when other counselling modalities have failed.

Because of the complexity of addiction and its pervasive consequences, the quest for a successful recovery rate remains a battle not only in South Africa, but also all over the world.

Addiction treatment typically involves numerous components, but most facilities overlook the holistic side of treatment.

By introducing holistic healing at Harmony, addicts are treated according to one of the Twelve Step Programme’s vital philosophies – namely that the physical, mental and spiritual components of each addict’s individual life are mutually connected.
