The Bethesda Recovery Homes welcome you to Bethesda’s Retreat at “The Huguenot”, a luxurious addiction treatment clinic set in its own estate of gardens, swimming pool, fountains, and forest and, for that African feel, a 10 minute walk to view the elephants of Knysna’s Elephant Park. En-suite bedrooms, each with satellite TV, have balconies overlooking or flow into our vast expanse of front gardens or out into the back courtyard, barbecue and pool area.
Bethesda’s Retreat not only has it all in terms of your personal comfort; our team of highly trained addictions counsellors, medical and administrative professionals are fully committed to your spiritual, psychological and emotional well-being and development. This is the complete package.
We are a Registered Rehabilitation Centre under the Prevention and Treatment of Drug Dependency Act, 1992 (Act 20 of 1992), as well as being registered with the Board of Health Funders (Practice Number 047 000 0232785).

Bethesda’s Retreat is our primary treatment facility for the treatment of addictions with a programme designed to expose and dismantle the deadly denial systems, attitudes, beliefs and behaviours that initiate and sustain destructive life patterns such as; gambling, eating disorders, depression and every form of chemical dependency.
Bethesda’s Retreat, a 10 minute drive from Plettenberg Bay, offers 24-hour supervision and never has more than 16 clients at any one time thereby ensuring your need of personal attention.
Although our therapeutic approach may be described as intense in terms of how we dismantle addiction’s denial system, our professionalism is never allowed to overshadow our empathy and compassion. We simply want to steer you to a safe platform from which you can begin to move forward toward a new life.

Still Waters Secondary Care Facility

Following the rigors of The Retreat’s primary programme, our clients also have a golden opportunity to stabilise at “Still Waters” in Plettenberg Bay. We want to address the problem of how many people leave therapy and relapse within a very short time. Although our primary programme at The Retreat has been developed along the lines of some of Europe’s top addiction treatment clinics, it invariably leaves clients in a vulnerable stage of transition. Too many ‘early recovery’ clients try to make too much progress too quickly and end up back in treatment. Our aim is to prevent this from happening to you. Clients of Still Waters are invited to take it slowly and with minimal risks when studying or looking for employment. Having time and space to arrange a way forward, our clients are encouraged to undertake part-time work and to start managing their finances with our experienced supervision.

Both of our homes are perfectly located for regular interaction with the local recovery community. Still Waters also offers miles and miles of beach and nature walks for personal space and that much needed ‘time-out’ from therapy.

South Africa’s Garden Route

Although our guidance will take you into the ugliness of your addiction, the surroundings of Bethesda’s Retreat and Still Waters offer an unrelenting therapeutic atmosphere where you will experience The Serenity Prayer in Surround Sound. Although our hopes for you are of the highest order, our expectations of you are what we know to be simply manageable. Supervised written step work is broken down into sections where the damage is gradually exposed and dealt with at your pace and with sensitivity. Our goal for you is to see you firmly grounded in the 12-Step Recovery Programme by walking you through Steps 1 to 5. Each of our counsellors has decades of productive recovery life to pass on to both you and your family. What you see in this team is exactly what the 12-Step Programme should produce.

Treatment for the Following; Co-dependency, Drink Problems, Drug Problems, Food Disorders, Gambling Addiction, Internet and Gaming Addiction, Self-Harm Issues, Sex Addiction and Depressions.

Admission Process:

The client is welcomed and oriented by the team. All medication is to be handed in to the nurse on duty. Only medication prescribed by the doctor directly involved in the client’s treatment will be allowed during the client’s stay. The client is then shown to his/her room where the nurse will help him/her unpack. All belongings and bags will be searched on arrival in the presence of the client. A counsellor is appointed and introduced, and will consult with the client a minimum of twice weekly for individual sessions as well as family sessions. Eating disorders will be introduced to a dietician.
